Magnitude-5.0 quake hits Maluku

A magnitude- 5.0 earthqauke rocked the city of Tual in Southeast Maluku regency, Maluku province on Monday at 5:18 a.m., as reported by Antara.

The temblor , epicentered offshore 219 kilometers southwest of Tual at a depth of 92 kilometers, did not produce a tsunami, Benny Sipolo, chief of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency’s (BMKG) Ambon office, said.

Tual city council spokesperson Rudolf Marthen said shocked residents ran out of their homes when the quake struck, although things quickly returned to normal.

No fatalities were reported.
