JAKARTA: The government will donate Rp 1 billion (US$110,071) to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for blood drive activities.
“We will help buy eggs, noodles and vitamins for blood donation activities and we will donate Rp 1 billion later,” President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told PMI chief Jusuf Kalla on Tuesday as quoted by Antara
news agency.
Yudhoyono said that voluntary blood donation was a noble activity and it could help to improve the national blood stock.
He said he urged all parties to make sure that the national blood stock was sufficient so that it could be distributed to the needy.
Yudhoyono added that PMI and the government should improve the quality of blood transfusions and access to technology.
PMI should also establish cooperation with the government, businesspeople and international organizations to improve service quality, he added.
Jusuf Kalla said that PMI was aiming to reach up to 4.5 million blood bags in 2012.
