In NYC, Indonesian Christians protest deportations

A- A A+

A group of Indonesian Christians and their supporters have gathered at New York's City Hall to call for the passage of a law that would allow them to seek asylum in the U.S. with their American-born children.

The group sang Christmas songs Tuesday and spoke in support of a federal bill to allow Christians who have faced religious persecution in Indonesia to apply for asylum.

The Rev. Seth Kaper-Dale says hundreds of Indonesians fled attacks but made the mistake of waiting to apply for asylum.

Authorities let many live legally in the U.S. for years but are now sending deportation letters.
