The chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) says the party has only two potential candidates for the presidential election in 2014.
Taufiq Kiemas said his wife, party chairman and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, and his daughter, Puan Maharani, would likely be nominated.
“The PDI-P has only two presidential candidates: Megawati and Puan Maharani," he said on Tuesday in Jakarta after attending a dinner for visiting legislators from Afghanistan, antaranews.com reported.
Taufiq was responding to questions on why the party’s ongoing national working meeting in Bandung was not discussing potential candidates. He said that the PDI-P had made its choice.
“It is up to Ibu Megawati, who will go ahead. She is smart,” Taufiq said.
