Syaharani ready to turn up heat in Toraja

A- A A+

Syaharani says she is set to warm up the Toraja Highland Jazz 2011 festival when it kicks off on Saturday in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi.

“My mission is to bring warmth because the connotation of ‘highlands’ is so cold,” Syaharani said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

The chanteuse, born in East Java but of South Sulawesi heritage, said she would sing lighter songs better suited to the heterogeneous audience expected at the soccer field hosting the concert.

“It can by any song with rhythms that can change into different things depending on our creativity. The most important thing is that the song must contain a jazz attitude,” she said.

Also scheduled to perform are drummer Gilang Ramadhan, Makassar musicians Harry Mantong, Daeng Serang and the De Lagaligo Syndicate along with several local traditional musicians. (drs)
