Tangerang Deputy Regent Rano Karnohas has submitted a letter of resignation to become Banten's next vice governor.
“Rano's request is still in process,” Hermansyah, Tangerang regency administration secretary, told reporters at Summarecon Mal Serpong on Wednesday.
Hermansyah said that Rano had to resign as he could not hold multiple elected positions in the regency and provincial governments.
Tangerang Regent Ismet Iskandar had two options in the wake of Rano's departure, Hermansyah said: find a replacement or leave the post vacant until Rano's term expired in 2013.
The Banten General Elections Commission (KPU) announced on October 30 that the campaign of Ratu Atut Chosiyah and Rano Karno won the gubernatorial poll with 49.64 percent of the ballot.
KPU chairman Hambali told The Jakarta Post that the governor- and vice-governor-elect would be inagurated on January 11.
Rano, a former prominent movie actor, reportedly played a pivotal role in Atut’s victory, along with the political machines of the parties that backed their nomination.
