Jakarta Governor wins HIV/AIDS award

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo has been named the nation’s best patron for HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns.
Fauzi received the award Thursday night from Manpower and Transmigration Muhaimin Minister Iskandar.
The governor told reporters on Friday that he had budgeted large sums to fight HIV/AIDS and to provide alternative drugs to treat HIV-infected people in Jakarta’s community healthcare centers.
“We are also encouraging groups of people with HIV/AIDS, empowering and training them so that they can become communicators within their own groups,” Fauzi said.
The governor received a similar award from the Office of the Coordinating Public Welfare Minister on Jan 31.
