No rabies in Jakarta: City official

A city official says that Jakarta is rabies free due to an intensive vaccination program for dogs, cats and monkeys.

The capital city, which has provincial status, was named one of nine rabies-free provinces in September, Ipih Ruyani, Jakarta Marine Affairs and Agriculture Agency head, said on Friday as reported by beritajakarta.com.

Jakarta has cooperated with Banten and West Java - neighboring provinces with rabies outbreaks – to monitor transport of animal vectors such as cats, dogs and monkeys into Jakarta.

”We also monitor stray dogs in Jakarta, giving them vaccinations against rabies,” he said.
