JAKARTA: The city’s Public Order Agency is set to deploy 1,780 officers to secure Christmas and New Year’s celebrations in Jakarta.
Agency head Effendi Anas said that 1,500 officers would be deployed to guard public places and churches throughout Greater Jakarta, while 280 officers would be assigned to patrol the city between Dec. 23 and Jan. 2.
“Usually, each church will be guarded by 10 to 15 officers. The officers will also cooperate with the police, the residents and mass organizations,” he said.
The agency would also open security posts that would operate around the clock, Effendi added.
To anticipate disturbances during the holiday season, Effendi asked church officials to coordinate with district and subdistrict chiefs to coordinate security.
