Tidung Island’s Love 2 Bridge collapses

The Love 2 Bridge on Tidung Island has collapsed, severely injuring a worker.

Ropy, 40, who was working nearby, sustained injuries to both of his legs, which were were hit by the ruins.

Jakarta’s Thousand Islands Regent Achmad Ludfi said the bridge collapsed on Monday afternoon.

“We will check the information in the field later,” he said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara.

He said the Love 2 Bridge dock was a popular place for youngsters to witness the sunset.

“Hopefully, this incident won’t affect tourists who want to visit Thousand Islands this year end,” said Achmad.

A local, Amsir Hasbi, 35, said the wooden bridge, 200 meters long and 2 meters wide, had collapsed because it could not stand the load that it was holding.

He said that construction materials used for Love 1 Bridge repairs were being used on the Love 2 Bridge by construction workers. (mtq)
