Doctors association offers 2nd opinion on Nunun

The Indonesia Doctors Association (IDI) says it is ready to offer a second opinion regarding a diagnosis of the condition of graft suspect Nunun Nurbaetie.

“We are ready to give a second opinion if asked. But we have yet to receive a request to give an opinion,” IDI chairman Prijo Sidipratomo said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.

“The result might be different from the previous result because the [second] examination will be carried out on a different day using different tools,” he added.

Prijo pointed out that the result also depended on the patient’s psychology during the examination, and could change from time to time.

“If we examine other aspects aside from the patient’s psychology, the diagnosis might not be too different,” he said.

Earlier, a team set up to examine Nunun, who had repeatedly complained of “severe memory loss”, announced that she was in a better condition after being hospitalized at the Soekanto Police Hospital for a week. The team recommended that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) pick up and transfer her to Pondok Bambu penitentiary.

She was admitted to the hospital as she almost fainted while being questioned by the KPK.

The team said that Nunun had suffered from an anxiety disorder, unstable blood pressure and mild dementia. However, the team’s psychiatrist cited that Nunun's memory was fine as she could remember a few things, including her identity and her time in Bangkok.

Nunun’s personal physician, Andreas Harry, stated that Nunun had suffered from “neuropathic pain, a chronic pain as a result of an injury to the nervous system, and also amnesia, which could lead to Alzheimer's disease”.

Nunun was admitted to the MMC hospital last week, before being transferred to the Soekanto Police Hospital, as she almost fainted while being questioned by the anti-graft body.

Nunun had allegedly distributed traveler's checks to more than 33 lawmakers and former lawmakers in relation to the election of Bank Indonesia deputy governor Miranda Swaray Goeltom in 2004.

Nunun was arrested in Bangkok earlier this month after being an Interpol fugitive since she was named a suspect in February. (swd)
