PEKANBARU: The Kampar River in Riau has burst its banks again and inundated five villages in Gunung Sahilan district, Kampar regency. The affected villages are Gunung Sahilan, Sahilan Darussalam, Subarak, Sungai Lipai and Kebun Durian villages, from where hundreds of residents have fled their homes as flood waters rise further during heavy rain.
The floodwater has swamped 196 homes, 625 hectares of oil palm plantations and 154 hectares of rubber farms. In several places, floodwaters have reached more than half a meter in depth. “The worst-hit areas are Sahilan Darussalam and Gunung Sahilan villages, where 187 homes have been inundated,” said Gunung Sahilan district chief Dasman on Monday.
