Washi affects Yogyakarta’s weather

A- A A+

The Washi tropical storm that claimed the lives of almost 1,000 people in the Philippines has affected weather in Yogyakarta, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has said.

Due to the typhoon, Yogyakarta has experienced less rainfall this month, Agus Triyanto from the Yogyakarta agency’s data and information section, said on Wednesday, antaranews.com reported.

“Due to the typhoon, the mass of air that brings air vapor is held in some areas because the storm approached the northern part of Indonesian waters,” he said.

Now that the storm had weakened, the agency predicted that the impact on Java Island would be less significant and rainfall in Yogyakarta would return to normal soon, he added.
