At least 5,400 joint personnel from the police, military and the provincial administration’s public order division have been tasked with securing the upcoming Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations, a police official said.
South Sulawesi Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Chevy Ahmad Sopari said the police will take the lead, with 3,380 personnel.
He added that security will be available, especially at churches. Strategic buildings and shopping malls were the next priorities, he said.
Currently there are 2,655 churches in the South and West Sulawesi regions. Chevy said there would be at least 10 to 15 personnel tasked with securing each church.
