The Makassar city administration
provided a training session on Thursday for regional unit officials, community
leaders and young volunteers on how to anticipate and cope with a possible
disaster in the area.
A special advisor to the Makassar mayor, Aminullah Teng, said Makassar was prone to different types of disasters, such
as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, droughts, extreme waves, abrasion, extreme
weather, epidemics and social conflict.
“Disasters can cause infrastructure damage and loss of life. So,
the administration has had the initiative to train disaster volunteers to
tackle such disasters that may occur in Makassar,”
he said on Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
