Gumilar to remain as UI rector: Minister

Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh has decided that Gumilar Rusliwa Soemantri will remain in his post as rector of the University of Indonesia (UI).

The decision was made on Thursday night during a meeting with the rector and the university’s Board of Trustees at the minister’s office, tempo.co reported.

Gumilar and the board members, who were both recently engaged in a heated conflict, also agreed on a reconciliation deal, according to Muhammad Hikam, one of the members.

The Board of Trustees had earlier issued a letter to dismiss Gumilar, following an allegation of misappropriation in the construction of several new buildings in the university’s compound.
