Safari park, Ancol named best conservation institutions

The Forestry Ministry’s forests and nature conservation directorate
general granted on Thursday PT Taman Safari Indonesia and PT Taman Impian Jaya
Ancol an “A” grade conservation award.
The grade is awarded to institutions that are “very good” in protecting
wild animals and plantations, the ministry said in a press statement.
Three institutions have been granted an “A” grade: PT Taman Safari Indonesia’s venue in Cisarua, Bogor;
PT Taman Safari Indonesia’s
Bali Safari and Marine
Park and PT Taman Impian
Jaya Ancol’s Gelanggang Samudera.
The statement said that the ministry assessed the institutions’ administrations
and facility management, animal management and health, visitor facilities,
conservation and community empowerment, human resources and sustainability.
The assessment was aimed at setting and maintaining a standard for
operational procedure in managing conservation institutions in Indonesia, it
said.
The ministry also awarded a “B” grade, meaning good, to a number of
zoos in Indonesia including Ragunan in Jakarta, Tamansari in Bandung,
Pematang Siantar in North Sumatra, Maharani Zoo and Cave in Lamongan and
Gembira Loka in Yogyakarta,
Also granted a “B” grade were East
Java Park,
Sea World Indonesia in Jakarta, Elephant Tour Bali, the Bali
Bird Park,
and the Rahmat International
Wildlife Museum
and Gallery in Medan.
Currently, 51 conservation institutions are registered under the aegis
of the Forestry Ministry. (swd)
