YOGYAKARTA: A 34-year-old father in Gamping, Sleman, Yogyakarta, took the life of his daughter and son before hanging himself on Friday. Sumpeno, who was reportedly suffering from depression brought on by domestic problems, worked at a construction materials store. A relative found him hanging in the kitchen of the family home on Friday morning. The police later found the bodies of his children in another room.
“The autopsy shows they died after sustaining blows to the heads by a hard object and strangulation,” Gamping Police precinct chief Comr. Widiyanto said on Friday, adding that preliminary findings indicated that Sumpeno took the lives of his children before ending his own.
The police, according to Widiyanto, said the house was in a complete mess, with many of the home appliances and doors badly damaged.
Sumpeno’s older brother, Bejo Sutopo, said his brother and Isrina Agustin, a security guard, had been experiencing marital problems over the past few months. On Thursday evening, for example, neighbors heard Sumpeno and his wife quarrelling.
