Golkar, PDI-P, PKS seek irregulaties in Bank Century scam

A- A A+

The Golkar Party, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) were disappointed with the forensic audit by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) which found no flows of funds to state officials or President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s Democratic Party prior to or after the bailout of Bank Century. They said they would study the audit’s results to find out if anything went wrong in the bailout process.
Everything seemed fine in the House leadership’s meeting room  when BPK Chief Hadi Purnomo and his four deputies handed over the audit report and all five House leaders smiled and applauded upon hearing the explanation of the audit’s executive summary and the answers to numerous questions raised regarding the agency’s findings.
However, the mood of three deputy House leaders Priyo Budi Santoso, Pramono Anung and Anis Matta of the Golkar, PDI-P and PKS respectively, seemed to contradict the smiles and they appeared unhappy with questions raised by House Speaker Marzuki Alie and deputy House Speaker Taufik Kurniawan of the Democratic Party and the National Mandate Party.
“We accept the audit results although they are not what we expected and we will closely examine them,” Priyo said.
He insisted there would almost certainly be shocks still to come because not only was the audit not yet complete, the audit results presented to the House leaders were not complete, merely the executive summary.
“Through their gestures and whispered words during the meeting, the BPK leaders looked at odds with the audit’s comprehensive results,” he said, adding the House would likely ask the BPK to conduct a further audit of the bailout process.
Anis Matta and Pramono agreed and said the Bank Century supervisory team whose term was extended for six months, would study the audit results and ask the BPK to look into all transactions with other related institutions, including banks and the Foreign Investment Board (Bapepam).
Marzuki, also a member of the Democratic Party’s patron board, looked happy with the audit’s results, which he said had dispelled all speculation and accusations against those allegedly involved in the scandal.
He said it was clear that the BPK found no suspicious transactions in the bailout process and the agency accepted there was no intervention from outside in carrying out the audit.
BPK Chief Hadi Purnomo also challenged anyone to show any loopholes in the audit process and to go to court if the BPK had intentionally hidden any facts during the audit.
Deputy BPK Chief Taufiqurahman Ruki who led the audit said his team had traced all transactions and interviewed those involved in the investigated transactions to seek clarification from them.
“The audit results have nothing to do with whether or not I was nominated by the Democrat faction to the BPK leadership in October, 2009. It is a matter of professionalism,” he stressed.
