Soekarno-Hatta airport sees 18% increase in Christmas, New Year travelers

PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II), state operator of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has predicted 18 percent increase in the number of airplane passengers travelling through the airport to celebrate Christmas and New Year holidays outside the capital city.
“The peak of Christmas and New Year passengers jump in the number is predicted to start today with an estimated 167.482 passengers and tomorrow with 154.868 passengers,” Jaya Tahoma Sirait, airport senior services manager told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
He explained that the busiest airport had served an average 138,000 passengers per day between January and November with total amount of 46.4 million passengers already recorded.  The total target of passengers until December 31 is predicted to reach up to 51 million.
“We've made a number of efforts to optimally utilize our human resources, including intensive briefing for the security personnel and technical workers as well as reorganization and expansion of overnight parking facilities at the terminal area,” he said.
He said the company had also prepaperd extra flights comprising 38 international flights with 10,000 seats and 250 domestic flights with 40,000 seats.
On Dec. 23 last year, the number of Christmas and New Year holiday passengers at the airport reached up to 143,197 while on December 24 the figure dropped to 135,868.
“For passengers comforts, we have also established Christmas and New Year holiday service posts at the terminals and provide tehcnicians at respective post,” he said.
