Two residents shot dead in Bima clash

Two residents of Lambu District, Bima Regency of West Nusa
Tenggara were shot dead in a clash between local residents and the police at
the Sape Seaport on Saturday.
National Students League for Democracy (LMND) leader Delian
Lubis said the two victims were identified as Arif Rachman, 19, who was shot
though his right arm and into his chest. Saepul, 17, was shot in his chest,
tribunnews.com reported on Saturday.
An undefined number of other people were reportedly injured
in the incident.
Residents of Lambu District had previously staged protests
and blockaded Sape Seaport.They demanded Bima Regent Ferry Zulkarnain revoke
the gold mining exploration license of PT Sumber Mineral Nusantara.
The company holds a concession permit covering 24.,800
hectares of land in Lambu District, but local residents apparently fear the
project would harm the environment. (iwa)
