The Indonesian government has welcomed the Malaysian government’s decision to increase the number of job sectors for migrant workers without permits (PATI) who have joined Malaysia’s amnesty program to obtain a work permit.

“The Malaysian government has added 11 job sectors for the PATI to obtain a job permit,” Indonesian Embassy spokesman Suryana Sastradiredja said on Monday as quoted by Antara.

Citing an example, he said workers who worked at house appliance stores could gain a work permit.

He said that there were many Indonesian migrant workers, especially those coming from Aceh, who enrolled in the amnesty program.

Suryana said that the Malaysian government had already issued about 3,000 permits out of more than 100,000 migrant workers who had applied for a work permit. (drs)
