A number of veteran and young artists will perform the premier of Lutung Kasarung musical show, which is dubbed the biggest musical performance in West Java, in the province’s capital of Bandung, on Tuesday evening.
The musical show, proposed by West Java Deputy Governor Dede Yusuf and directed by senior actor Didi Petet, will take center stage at the Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga) ballroom at 7:30 p.m., Antara reported.
The musical performance will star more than 150 artists, including young actress and actor Laudya Chintya Bella and Chicco Jerikho.
Lutung Kasarung is a Sundanese tale about a handsome and powerful god named Guruminda Kahyangan who lives in a heaven called Svargaloka.
Guruminda Kahyangan, who enraged Sunan Ambu (in Indonesian means Mother Goddess or Queen Goddess), the highest mother goddess in Sundanese mythology, was banished from heaven as punishment and returned to earth as a black lutung (a primate).
He was required to stay in that body until he learned humility and earned the sincere love of a woman.
The play is written by Eddy D. Iskandar and Getar Jagat Raya and the music is directed by Ayo Sunaryo. Asep Nugraha is the choreographer while Dede Siswanto, along with Kania Roesli, designed the costumes.
The organizers, who set prices ranging from Rp 150,000 (US$16.50) to Rp 650,000, announced on Tuesday that tickets for the premier show had sold out.
The show will be performing until Jan. 1. (swd)
