Indonesian team on its way to conquer Vinson Massif

The second Indonesian Seven Summits team had reached Punta Arenas, Chile on Sunday on their way to conquer Vinson Massif (4,897 meters above sea level) in Antarctica.

It was the sixth summit climbed by the team, which hailed from the the Nature Lovers Society (Wanadri) .

The team, consisting of Ardeshir Yaftebbi, 29, Iwan Irawan, 38, Martin Rimbawan, 25, Fajri Al Luthfi, 25, and Nurhuda, 23, had successfully climbed Denali (6,194 meter) in Alaska, United States; Aconcagua (6,962 meter) in Argentine, Elbrus (5,642 meter) in Russia, Kilimanjaro (5,895 meter) in Tanzania, Africa, and Carstensz Pyramid (4,884 meter) in Papua, Indonesia.

Kompas.com reported on Tuesday that the team would take Brascomb Glacier, the common route to the top of Vinson Masif within seven days.

The team is scheduled to conquer Everest (8,848 meter) in Nepal, the last mountain top of their journey, in mid 2012.

Four members of the Mahitala mountain climbing team from Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) in Bandung, West Java, was the first Indonesian climbers’ team that completed the seven summits mission.
