The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) says the state lost Rp 240 trillion (US$26.16 billion) in 2011 due to inflated contracts for goods and services.
The state allocated Rp 800 trillion of its Rp 1,435 trillion budget for goods and services in 2011 that should have been procured through fair and transparent tenders, commission chief Nawir Messi said on Wednesday.
"Based on our experience of more than 10 years in supervising the procurement of goods and services, we estimate that there was inflation – as much as 30 percent,” he said on the sidelines of a business development competition in Denpasar, Bali, as reported by antaranews.com.
