TMII targets 50,000 visitors for New Year’s Eve

J

AKARTA: Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) cultural park is preparing to receive around 50,000 visitors to celebrate New Year’s Eve at the park.

TMII spokesperson Suryandoro said that this year’s target was higher than last year’s 45,000 visitors.

“We have prepared a number of events for the celebration, such as music, puppet shows by three young masters and a fireworks display,” he said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

TMII is a popular attraction during holiday seasons. The park was visited by no fewer than 100,000 visitors during Idul Fitri, the Islamic holiday, in September.

The police, however, have warned Jakartans who plan to spend New Year’s Eve in TMII that the area might face severe gridlock.

The police predict several potentially crowded areas, including TMII, Ancol in North Jakarta, the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle and the National Monument in Central Jakarta, and Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta.
