Jakarta firefighters on
peak alert for NYE

The Jakarta Firefighter and Disaster Mitigation Agency will deploy personnel on New Year’s Eve in various entertainment centers in the city, the agency chief said.

Paimin Napitupulu said the agency would deploy personnel across Jakarta, including in fire-prone Tambora in West Jakarta.

“We will be on stand-by for 24 hours arranging personnel in three shifts. Around 1,600 people will be working each shift,” Paimin said Friday in Jakarta as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Paimin added that the agency would focus on areas vulnerable to fire, as well as areas where people gather to celebrate New Year’s Eve to watch fireworks displays.

He warned that people celebrating New Year’s Eve outside their homes should remain alert. (swd)
