5.5 SR quake hits Aceh

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit Aceh on Monday morning but the residents remained calm.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake, which occurred for 10 seconds at 01:10 a.m., did not have the potency to cause a tsunami, tempo.co reported.

The epicenter of the quake was 45 kilometers north-east of Meulaboh, West Aceh, or 53 kilometers south-west of Takengon, Central Aceh. It occurred at 4.45 degrees latitude and 96.39 degrees longitude.
