Sleepy thief caught in front of victim’s house

A thief was caught after falling asleep in front of his victim’s house in Depok on Monday morning.

Traditional food vendor Agustian said he was suspicious when he found a man sleeping in front of a regular customer’s house.

He said he then called his friend, Teguh, and approached the man, who turned out to be a thief and reported him to the police.

“It was awkward when I saw someone sleeping in front of the house, which is often empty,” he said on Monday as quoted by tempo.co.

Pancoran Mas sub-precinct police deputy chief Adj. Comr. Ibnu Salim Prasojo said that Agustian and Teguh apprehended the thief because they saw the house had been disturbed.

He said that the thief, identified only as IM, was caught around 4 a.m. after he robbed the house together with his two friends, who had already fled.

He said that IM had recently been released from Pondok Ranjek prison in Bogor, West Java, and was currently working as a laborer in Beji.

Ibnu explained that losses was estimated at Rp 5.5 million (US$606.53). (drs)
