The Indonesia-Canada Youth Exchange Group is building relationships with people in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, in efforts to help improve their health and develop their local economy.
“We are providing counseling for general health check-ups, dental problems and mothers' and children's health,” group coordinator Edwan Juanda Rusydi said Tuesday as quoted by Antara.
The program, which involves 20 Indonesian and Canadian youths, is part of a cooperation program between Canada World Youth and the Indonesian Youth and Sports Ministry, and is supported by the Palangkaraya Youth and Sports Agency.
Edwan said group members had been involved in many activities, including establishing a youth activity center and providing trainings on entrepreneurship, agriculture and animal husbandry, during their three-month stay.
He said group members had also helped local communities manage their waste and build a proper sanitation system. (drs)
