Alchemy: Several laborers haul the wreckage of a boat onto Tanjungjati Beach, Kamal Madura, East Java, on Friday. The workers plan to extract the iron out of the wrecked boat and sell it to an iron smelting company in Surabaya, East Java, for Rp 6,000 (66 US cents) per kilogram. A group of 20 people can dismantle a boat within two weeks, collecting between 700 and 1,000 kilograms of iron. (JP/Indra Harsaputra)
