Indonesia is looking forward to reviving bilateral relations with Iraq in a timely manner, following the US military pullout from the Middle Eastern country.
Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto said on Thursday that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had asked Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa to talk with his Iraqi counterpart about the possibility of assigning an Indonesian envoy to Iran.
"This has to do with our intention to post an ambassador in Baghdad," Djoko said in Jakarta as quoted by Antara.
The President also asked the foreign minister to talk with the United Nations about the steps needed in Iraq after the departure of US forces. (swd)
