Three escaped
immigrants were recaptured Sunday while another immigrant was still on a run
after they fled from the Surabaya immigration detention center in Bangil,
Pasuruan regency, on Saturday.
The head of the Law
and Human Rights Ministry’s East Java regional office, Mashudi, said a manhunt had
begun for the last escaped immigrant.
“They escaped by
climbing the 7-meter high detention wall using bed covers,” Mashudi told
reporters on Sunday.
The three recaptured
immigrants were Murtaza, 28, Haidar, 34, and Muhammad, 36.
The four
immigrants were among the 49 immigrants who survived the sinking of their boat,
which was carrying 250 passengers, in Prigi waters, Trenggalek, East Java, in
December. The boat had been heading to Australia. (swd)
