The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will need at least Rp 70 billion (US$7.6 million) to build its own maximum-security prison, according to the government’s top corrections official.
“The budget does not cover the detention center’s facilities, infrastructure and maintenance,” Law and Human Rights Ministry prisons chief Sihabuddin said on Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The KPK would need more than Rp 100 billion to build the500-inmate prison, including a security system, he added.
“The funding will entirely be from the KPK if the KPK wants to build a detention center.”
Any prison built by the commission would still fall under the Law and Human rights Ministry, Sihabuddin said. (drs)
