Police rued a robbery incident in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, Banten, where perpetrators not only managed to run away with Rp 14 million in cash and some products from a local Alfamart store, but also its CCTV recording.

“It is understood that the group of perpetrators also took the CCTV recorder,” Pondok Aren Police chief Comr. Victor Alexander Lateka said on Wednesday, as quoted by tempo.co.

A CCTV recording, he said, was important to the police as it served as evidence that provided clues to uncover the identities of perpetrators.

Victor said that mini markets should be more careful in storing their CCTV recorders and not place them in easily accessible places such as cashier drawers.

He added that managers of mini markets should hire security guards to serve as an additional security measure.

The robbery of the Alfamart on Jl. Raya Jombang in Pondok Aren took place at 1.30 a.m. Seven men allegedly came into the store just as its three employees were closing. The men allegedly pretended to buy a cigarette but took out a machete and sickle and confronted the cashier, before tying up and gagging the employees.

The robbers took Rp 14 million from the store’s safety deposit box and also a number of products. (awd)
