Around 1,000 boy and girl scouts from various provinces hoisted a 1,000 square foot red and white flag at Sebatik Island, Nunukan, on Tuesday afternoon to mark the National Sea and Maritime Scouts Troop (Saka Bahari) encampment and admiralty event.

Head of National Saka Bahari First Adm. Kinkin Suroso said that the flag was lifted from the seabed in Situbondo, East Java, by 1,000 divers.

“This flag will also be shown at the Raimuna Nasional 2012 jamboree event in Jayapura, Papua,” he said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com, adding that the flag will be flown on every Indonesian border.

The Saka Bahari event begins with a cruise from Jakarta to Sebatik Island, through Makassar, Balikpapan, Derawan and Tarakan using warship KRI Dr. Suharso.

The scouts from 21 provinces are also conducting several activities, such as visiting military stations on the border, planting trees and taking part in a number of social activities.(drs)
