Bank Indonesia (BI), in cooperation with the Jakarta Military Command (Kodam Jaya), will continue to renovate school buildings in Greater Jakarta to advance education in the country.

BI director of strategic planning and public relations Dyah Makhijani said that development in education should also be assisted by other society elements, apart from the government, because education was very important for the progress of the nation.

“All this time, BI has already given scholarships to the public, but it must be supported by the development of adequate facilities and infrastructure,” she said on Wednesday in Depok as quoted by Antara.

She said that she was very thankful that Kodam Jaya was also concerned about advancing education.

Kodam Jaya chief Maj. Gen. Waris said that the Indonesian Military (TNI) was also required to support the development of the country, such as in the field of education.

“Education is important for the nation’s progress. The Indonesian people must get smarter and more advanced,” he said.

He said that he hoped that there would be other institutions concerned about advancing education.

Waris said the cooperation starte late last year in which TNI personnel renovated schools as part of BI’s social responsibility with a total budget of Rp 2.7 billion (US$293,797). BI and TNI had already finished renovating 27 schools and would start to renovate another 16 schools. (drs)
