German arrested over masterminding robbery allegation

In cooperation with the Jakarta police, the Batam Island police have arrested a German national by the name of Uwe Schweisfurth in connection with the allegation of masterminding the robbery of his previous Indonesian girlfriend, Tina, in Batam last month.

“We have discovered his involvement from other suspects during questioning sessions,” head of the Batam Police office Sr. Comr. Karyoto said on Wednesday.

The police had earlier managed to arrest five people who robbed Tina while she was on her way to Hang Nadim International Airport last month. From these people, the police unveiled information that they were paid by Uwe to steal from Tina.

When asked to confirm the allegation, Uwe said he was angry with his previous girlfriend as he felt he had been manipulated. The robbery, he continued, was his way of getting back what the girl had taken from him. (mtq)
