House budget committee earmarks Rp 20b for new digs

A senior House official says that the ongoing renovations of the House budget committee will cost more than Rp 20 billion (US$2.17 million).

“We felt that the condition of the budget committee’s room in the Nusantara I building, in terms of its lighting, was not good enough. The acoustics were inadequate, and so were the carpet and furniture,” House secretary general Nining Indra Sale said on Wednesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Nining said that the renovations were required as the existing room could not seat all 85 lawmakers on the committee, nor accommodate the 100 to 150 legislators and officials who attended committee meetings.

“That is why a decent meeting facility is needed. The room we have now is inadequate,” Nining said.

The lawmakers also needed a break room, she added.
