The Surabaya administration plans to give overtime pay and meal allowances as incentives for students to produce innovative products.
Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said on Wednesday that the administration would allocate Rp 4 billion (US$436,000) in the city budget for that purpose.
“We will give these incentives to SMK [vocational high school] students who are able to make innovative products required by the public,” said the mayor.
“We’re encouraging SMK students to continue to work [on innovative products].”
According to Rismaharini, state vocational high school SMK 2 students are now able to assemble cars, laptops and notebooks, while those from state vocational high school SMK 11 are able to produce furniture.
“There are many other SMKs in Surabaya that have produced innovative products,” she said. (mtq)
