State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II has allocated Rp 1.4 trillion (US$152.1 million) in its 2012 budget for the expansion of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

President director Tri Sunoko said Thursday that Rp 1.4 trillion out of the total budget of Rp 11.75 trillion would come from the company’s 2012 capital expenditures, while another Rp 8.2 trillion would be sourced from external funds.

He did not elaborate, however, about where the remaining Rp 2.15 trillion would come from.

“We will prioritize the use of internal funds first. We have already prepared Rp 1.4 trillion from our internal funds,” Tri said as quoted by kompas.com.

He explained that the company was at present completing the detailed engineering design (DED) for the airport and the financing scheme.

“We are aiming to complete [the DED] by the end of February,” Tri said.

He said the ground-breaking was scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.

During the initial stage, construction would be focused on terminal development so that the airport could accommodate up to 62 million people a year, he said.

This will be a vast increase in capacity from the current terminal building which, when it was built in 1982, was intended to cater for 22 million passengers. In 2011, however, the number of travelers totaled 42.3 million.

Tri added that the company was also planning to build a mass rapid transit (MRT) system worth Rp 40 trillion and a railway system worth Rp 2.27 trillion, and to develop the North Kalibaru Terminal with an estimated budget of Rp 11.7 trillion. (drs/mtq)
