Hundreds of houses in N. Jakarta destroyed by fire

A fire ravaged hundreds of houses in a densely populated area in Kampung Bandan, Pademangan in North Jakarta on Saturday, leaving hundreds of families homeless, a fire brigade officer said.
“We are still investigating what caused the fire and how many people actually fell victim to this tragedy,” Parto from the North Jakarta fire service told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.
Kaiman, another officer, added that 29 fire trucks had been deployed to extinguish the flames that were first seen at 11.35 a.m. He said according to early reports, as many as 220 families lived in the area.
