As the West Java gubernatorial elections draw nearer, political parties are now starting to search for candidates.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has confirmed its intention to stand by current incumbent governor Ahmad Heryawan, while the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was still deciding who would fit its profile for the post.
As many as six people from the party have so far announced their interest in participating, including lawmaker Rieke Diah Pitaloka.
Former actress Rieke is popular for her defense of the condition of Indonesian workers abroad.
“We will consider popularity, in addition to integrity and capability, in order to win the posts later on,” PDIP secretary general Tjahjo Kumolo said Monday.
West Java will see its new governor and deputy governor next year. (dic)
