More than 90 percent of technology used by industry in Indonesia is still being imported from other countries, a minister says.
Research and Technology Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta said that the industrial sector in the country was still heavily dependent on foreign technology.
“Indonesian people are still not convinced about their own technology,” he said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that the pharmaceutical industry in the country was still dominated by foreigners while raw materials for medicines were still imported.
He said that his ministry would conduct an inventory of various technologies in the country and would sort them into those which could be applied directly and indirectly.
Gusti added that the ministry would also invite entrepreneurs engaged in various industrial sectors to use the available local technology.(drs)
