Despite growing concerns regarding rampant corrupt practices within the force, National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo announced that his institution would require continuous budget increases in the years ahead.

“The police’s minimal budget for 2012 is Rp 48.89 trillion. For 2013 (the required budget) will be Rp 52.139 trillion and as much as Rp 57.935 trillion for 2014,” he said Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

The increase, he said, would be spent on the recruitment of additional officers and on equipping the institution with better facilities to improve its overall performance.

He added that, in terms of order and security, the National Police would need 10,350 more personnel this year, while in 2013 and 2014 another 20,350 personnel would be needed.

“This is to manifest the ideal police force in performing its duty of protecting the public and ensuring security in the country,” he said. (awd)
