One of two thieves who were caught red-handed trying to steal a motorcycle parked in front of Ananta health clinic on Jl. Raya Ceger, Pondok Aren district, late on Tuesday, shot the bike’s owner.
The victim was immediately rushed to Sutoyo Hospital in South Jakarta with a bullet wound to his right thigh.
Pondok Aren police chief Comr. Viktor Alexander Lateka identified the motorcycle owner as Dennis HP, 30.
According to Viktor, the incident began when the victim, who needed to buy some medicine, parked his motorcycle in front of the clinic.
A few minutes later, Dennis saw two unidentified men pull up on another motorcycle and put their hands on his bike.
Being curious Dennis said that he approached the two men.
“It came as a surprise that one of the men, who appeared to have panicked, suddenly pulled out a gun and shot him in his right thigh before escaping in the direction of Cileduk,” Viktor said, quoting an eye witness.
He said that based on the police’s examination at the crime scene, the two unidentified men, who were still at large, used a hand-made revolver.
“We are still collecting information and evidence and have deployed a team to hunt the perpetrators,” he added. (mtq)
