DENPASAR: A woman has been sentenced to three months in jail for stealing Rp 20,000 (US$2.20) from her colleague.

Yayuk Winarsih, a native of Surabaya, East Java, was proven guilty of stealing the money from Ayu Febri Franthinie when she worked at a mall in Denpasar.

Although the defendant maintained she was innocent, presiding judge Erly Soelistiarini said that she had been proven guilty based on facts and testimonies revealed during the trial.

The verdict was lighter than the six-month jail term demanded by the prosecution. “I accept the sentence, but I never stole the money,” Yayuk said in response to the verdict. She will be released on Jan. 26.
