BPK reveals Rp 41 billion of state loses in UI

The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) has announced the results of its financial audit concerning the University of Indonesia (UI), which point to allegations that the university has lost Rp 41 billion (US$451,417) of state money.

The report stated the losses were the result of an improper land-conversion process for a students’ dormitory building located at Jl. Pegangsaan Timur 17, Central Jakarta, and the reckless spending of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funds.

“We are concerned that such embezzlement or irresponsibility to the tune of Rp 41 billion of state money can take place at a noted, academic institution like UI,” BPK official Rizal Djalil said Thursday as quoted by Antara.

Rizal made his comments after submitting the agency’s audit results on UI to the House of Representatives’ Deputy Speaker Taufik Kurniawan.(iwa/dic)
