Minivan driver suspected of reckless driving in fatal Gambir crash

The driver of a minivan who allegedly killed 8 people in an accident in Gambir, Central Jakarta, has been named a suspect for reckless driving by the police.

Apriyani Susanti, was now in custody at Jakarta Police headquarters awaiting questioning, Sr. Comr. Sudarmanto, the law enforcement chief of the Jakarta Police's traffic directorate, said.

“We named him as a suspect after gathering testimony and evidence from all passengers,” he said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.

Sudarmanto said Apriyani would be charged with reckless driving resulting in the injury and deaths of others  and faced six year's imprisonment if found guilty.

Apriyani allegedly lost control of his minivan on Sunday morning, plowing into a crowd outside state electricity company PLN in Gambir on Sunday, leaving 8 dead and five people severely injured. (dic)
