PT KAI insists concrete balls effective in deterring ‘naughty’ passengers

State railway operator PT KAI's spokesman, Mateta Rizajalulhaq, said the installation of concrete balls to deter illegal passengers have proved to be effective, as since their introduction, no freeloading passengers have been spotted on the trains' roofs.
“As of Saturday, we have not seen any people sitting on the roofs of trains. Thus, this has proved to be a good precedent,”Mateta said on Saturday as quoted by tempo.co.
When asked about allegations that the placement of the balls was a clear violation of human rights, Mateta denied that this was the case.
“The only parties who violated human rights are those passengers who opted to ride on the top of trains,” he said.
PT KAI recently installed concrete balls at intervals along the railroad from Jakarta to Cikampek to prevent illegal passengers from sitting on train roofs.(dic)
